Steve has been a RAW member since 2002. He first discovered the club after entering the Bold In The Cold 15K back in 2001. It seemed to him, at the time, to be an ideal place to do long runs for his very first marathon, The 2002 Dallas White Rock Marathon.
Steve knew right away that RAW was his new running home, because it was so peaceful running on the trails by the lake and the club members were always so kind and friendly to him. He is very interested in giving back to his running family by volunteering for club races and helping others new to running. Steve started running back in 1971 at Ardmore Oklahoma Junior High. He continued running at Vinita Oklahoma High School and McAlester High School. His most proud moment happened in October 1975 when he broke 17:40 in 5k at a Cross Country meet against Muskogee High School. Steve also ran junior college track at North Eastern Oklahoma A&M Junior College in 1977 and 1978, where he had some success in the 880 yd dash and mile run. Steve stopped running the next 20 years and put on 70 pounds. His health began to deteriorate and he also developed an inner ear problem called meniere's disease. He began jogging to try to lose the weight and discovered that the vertigo associated with meniere’s disease went away when he was running. Steve was able to lose 60 pounds and cope with the vertigo. He still has the vertigo today but running helps him to cope on the bad days. Steve has now run 30 marathons and two 50K ultra marathons since 2002 and even joined the Marathon Maniacs Running Club in 2007. If it wasn't for RAW, Steve believes he would probably still have serious health problems. Steve’s long-term goal is to run the Heartland 50 mile Ultra marathon in October 2008. Besides running he enjoys fishing and listening to bluegrass and country music. Steve is blessed with a wonderful wife Cyndi and his precious daughter Noelle. Jack has been a member of RAW since 2003. His wife Gretchen and he have been married for 20 years and have an 18-year-old son, Matthew, who will be attending Texas A&M this fall. Jack's family first moved to this area in 1968, and he moved back to Grapevine, again, ten years ago. Jack started running in the early 80’s and has completed 3 marathons, a 50-K run at Palo Duro, and numerous other half-marathons and 25K trail runs since 2004.
When he is not running, Jack works as a Sr. Database Administrator. He is also active in his son’s Boy Scout troop. In addition to running, Jack enjoys backpacking, camping, and spending time with his family. Contact Jack at: JackG@RunnersAndWalkers.com LGRAW Race Bold In The Cold 5K and 15K ![]()
Bold In The Cold is RAW's first race of the year and a great way to get your running season off to a good start. Kirsten has been an active member of RAW since 2004. She initially found her home at the club by regularly participating in the Wednesday and Friday morning trail runs. Kirsten enjoyed those workouts so much, she nows runs with the club on most weekday mornings and regularly on the weekends.
RAW has helped Kirsten to achieve her goal of running her very first marathon back in 2005 at the Chicago Marathon and considers that as among one of her most treasured running achievements. Some of Kirsten's favorite running moments have been doing the Munich Marathon, running with the VIPs in SLC, and the Hood to Coast relay in Portland, Oregon. To Kirsten, the best part of each of these events was the training that took place with fellow RAW members who are now among her closest friends. Kirsten has decided to run for the RAW Board to become more involved with the club. RAW has done so much for her life and her running. She nows wants the opportunity to give back to the sport by volunteering her time so that others might be able to share in the same pleasures that she has enjoyed whenever she goes out to the RAW clubhouse to run. Cindy Lee has been a member of RAW since 2003 and has been active in club events from the beginning. She began running 10 years ago and ran her first marathon in Duluth MN at the Grandma's Marathon. She since ran 5 more marathons and twice as many 1/2 marathons. She is running for her 2nd term on the board and hopes to be part of keeping this club the wonderful place that it is.Contact Cindy at: CindyL@RunnersAndWalkers.com Director - Ken "Fireman" Macinnes
Ken MacInnes (Fireman Ken) is an almost Charter Member, joining the club approximately 2 months after the club was formed. Time constraints have kept him from serving as a Board member before now, but the time has come to give back. He has been a runner for over 25 years, competing at all levels from 5K to ultras. Now he runs for exercise (and sometimes fun) in a hopeless attempt to slow down the aging process. He is probably best known around the club house for being the “daddy” of Genny, the big red electrical generator that appears at almost all club races. When not working as the Training Officer for the Flower Mound Fire Department he……never mind, he is always working.Contact Ken at: KenM@RunnersAndWalkers.com
Doug has been a member of RAW since 1998. When not running, he works as a project manager for Perot Systems. He started running about that time mostly due to sibling rivalry since he couldn't bear that his brother Alan was planning to run a marathon while he'd be lucky to run one mile. He's run a couple of marathons and one ultra since, but prefers the considerably more sane distance of half marathons.
Doug lives in Grapevine with his wife, Courtney, and their young son, Scott. He has been keeping the membership database updated for 3 years, mailing out new member and renewal letters as well as the Footprint, and also volunteers frequently at RAW events. He can normally be found at the clubhouse on whichever weekend day Courtney is watching Scott. Contact Doug at: DougN@RunnersAndWalkers.com
Robin joined RAW in January 2007 during the Bold in the Cold 15K event shortly after moving to Grapevine. She completed 3 marathons (2006 Dallas White Rock, Boston, and Marine Corps) and continues to be active in numerous running events. She also cycled in a number of organized rides over the years and also participates with the BRAW cycling group. Recently Robin met her goal in July 2008 of competing in her first triathlon and has high hopes to participate in more to improve her “daunting swim” times.
A few of Robin’s favorite moments include the Boston Marathon, El Scorcho, DFW Marine Mud Run, Hotter ‘N Hell Hundred, Ride for the Roses, kayaking on Lake Grapevine, and the Pioneer Power Sprint Triathlon. Robin is a physical therapist, married to Brad for fifteen years and together is raising 3 children. She has volunteered for RAW sponsored events, the Grapevine community, and in her neighborhood association. She has enjoyed the friendships and social events of RAW and wants to contribute more to the great organization that it is! BRAw is a (so far) free, entry-level cycling group of more than 100 members, based in Grapevine, TX. Our no-drop, casual, social, Monday night rides average 15 - 18 mph for an hour or two, and are ideal for someone who just bought their first road bike (probably too fast for hybrid or mountain bikes, unless you're a cycling monster like Don Strome or Karen Robertson.) Some of us frequently ride with Mad Duck, Fort Worth Bicycling Association, Carrollton Cycling Club, and other groups Highlights of our season include the Shiner BASH and the Hotter Than Hell. Default time for training rides is 6:30 pm Monday nights (suspended when Daylight Savings Time ends), from the clubhouse of Lake Grapevine Runners and Walkers, but check the latest discussion by clicking on "Messages" in the leftside toolbar. For up-to-date information on upcoming rides and events first the BRAw Site Marty and his lovely wife, Tia, have each served on the board and hosted numerous club parties and post-ride cookouts. When they moved to Grapevine and joined the club in 1998, “Buster” had to walk up the hill at the ¾ mile mark. Besides six marathons, he went on to toe the line at 16 ultra-marathons, including a finish at the Rocky Raccoon 100, and over 113 miles at the UltraCentric 48 Hour where he raised $3000 for pediatric burn victims. Hélène and Alan Walker, Tom Ruyle and Lee Miller inspired him to give triathlons a chance, leading him to complete about a dozen, including the 2007 IronMan 70.3 National Championships in St. Croix. While training for his first few triathlons, Marty responded to popular request and organized a cycling group called, BRAw (Bike Run And walk, you might have to see the BRAw wear to understand the significance of the case selection). Be careful what you ask for, as the latest requests are resulting in the formation of an open water swim group! Marty and BRAw travel to numerous cycling events each year, culminating with the famous “Hotter Than Hell 100”.
